Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring Level 1 or 2 trauma experience and an active SD or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the Surgical Services department with 12 operating rooms and additional Pre-Op and PACU bays
• Cases include Urology, Neuro, Ortho, Robotic, General, Podiatry, and ENT surgeries
• Patients may require pre and post-op recovery, including some ICU-level care in PACU
• Typical shifts are 12 hours with variable scheduling
• Weekend rotation required, with on-call responsibilities including ideally one overnight per week and every third weekend
• Sleep room available in the Pre-Op/PACU area during on-call shifts
• Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferred but not required
• Omnicell and Alaris equipment is utilized
• Floating may occur to Pre-Op, PACU, or floor, serving as helping hands if outside peri-op services
• RN will provide care through all perioperative phases
• Ratios: OR 1:1, Pre-Op 1:2, PACU Phase I 1:1 or 1:2 based on acuity, PACU Phase II 1:2-3
• Multidisciplinary support includes RN First Assist, Surg Tech, Nurse Clinician, CRN, Service Line Leads, and other support staff
• One week of orientation is provided
• Scrubs are provided to all staff
• Free parking is available
• Expect to work two out of four major holidays
• Low census may result in non-paid time, subject to manager approval
• This is a traveler-friendly environment with positive feedback on contract renewals

Requirements

• Active South Dakota or compact state RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of OR experience with Level 1 or 2 trauma
• Experience in a tertiary care center and with Ortho-Trauma, Neuro, General, and Robotic (Davinci XI) cases
• Pre-Op and PACU experience including ICU skillset strongly preferred
• Must have completed a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
• Must live more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
• First-time travelers will not be accepted without prior approval
• Former permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
