Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring trauma level 1 experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care Cardiac Telemetry unit
- 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling options, including 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week block
- Expected to work 2 out of 4 major holidays
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3 or 1:4
- Patient population includes CABG, MVR, STEMI, heart failure, fundoplication, VATS decortication, and vascular repair cases
- Responsible for titrating drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone
- Telemetry monitoring is performed with GE equipment; off-unit tele techs assist but RNs need to interpret common rhythms
- Uses Cerner for documentation
- Floating required to all applicable areas
- Respiratory equipment in use includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula
- Two-day unit-specific orientation provided
- Participation in a SIMs Lab that evaluates sterile field skills on day 1 of orientation is mandatory and pass/fail
- Failure to pass the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exams after two attempts results in a six-month disqualification for the region
- Charge/resource nurse ideally does not take patient assignments
- Support staff includes 1 patient care technician for every 16 beds
- Navy blue scrubs are required and not provided
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Travelers must have their own vehicle
- RNs are expected to be competent in common rhythm interpretation and maintaining sterile technique
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience with Level 1 trauma environment required
- Current BLS certification required
- Competence in sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is expected
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with two attempts allowed
- Previous experience with post-op cardiovascular surgery patients is highly recommended
- Must provide a copy of driver’s license
- Two references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years, both with dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Candidates must not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
