Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring Level 1 Trauma experience and Arizona or compact licensure.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 30-bed Medical Telemetry (Tower 5) unit within an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital
- Care for high-acuity patients including post-GYN surgery, pre-liver transplant, ESRD, cellulitis, pneumonia, diabetes, and DKA cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 with two patient care techs for support and a charge nurse with no patient assignment
- 12-hour night shifts from 7PM-7AM, with four weekend shifts per four weeks and coverage of two of the four major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's)
- Floating required to any Med/Surg or Tele floor
- Uses Cerner EMR; experience with Cerner required
- Telemetry monitoring with Phillips equipment; RNs must be able to read EKGs
- Patients may require BiPAP or CPAP; patients must be independent on vents
- SWAT RN available for IV support; respiratory therapy and pharmacy staff available 24/7
- Unit offers a 2-day floor orientation and 12 hours of general orientation
- Responsible for frequent management of admissions and discharges with approximately one-third patient turnover daily
- Must maintain sterile technique during common procedures; SIMs Lab is strictly pass/fail
- Team includes two PCTs per shift, SWAT RNs for IV support, and designated charge nurse
- Navy scrubs required for this unit
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit test
- First-day orientation includes additional education on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Participation in hospital holiday shift rotation is required
- Must have personal transportation; travel teams must provide their own vehicle
- Position suited for candidates who are competent in Med/Surg Tele, telemetry interpretation, and critical nursing skills
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience with prior Level 1 Trauma hospital experience
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Experience with IV insertion and EKG rhythm interpretation required
- Must pass the DYS (dysrhythmia) exam prior to offer; two attempts allowed
- Successful completion of pass/fail SIMs Lab skills check for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day one
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Must provide two professional references (one supervisor from within the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the past 3 years)
- Copy of driver’s license must be provided
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (according to driver’s license)
- Candidates may not have worked for any facility in the associated health system (including CHI or Dignity) in the past 12 months
