Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU VAD Coordinator role in Washington, DC, requiring active or pending DC licensure and VAD management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Primary focus is coordination of care for patients with ventricular assist devices (VAD)
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Includes rotating weeknight and weekend call coverage (primarily remote unless onsite presence is medically necessary)
  • Call hours are weeknights 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM and weekends Friday 5:00 PM through Monday 7:00 AM
  • 13-week contract assignment
  • Coordinate and monitor care of patients with VADs during procedures and operations
  • Collaborate with equipment and materials management teams to maintain VAD inventory and respond to FDA recalls
  • Provide patient and staff education on VAD in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Holiday coverage may be required as per unit needs
  • Pre-employment modules and orientation required, averaging 12 hours
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off accepted per contract; no time off in the first two weeks
  • Local candidates within a 60-mile radius are accepted at a lower rate

Requirements

  • Active DC RN license required before start; proof of pending status accepted at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Experience in CVICU and management of ventricular assist devices required
  • VAD Certification preferred within 18 months of hire
  • Two supervisor references required
  • Must be proficient in VAD patient education, management, and device procedure support
  • Must not have been employed by the same health system within the past year
