Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Room RN with recent trauma level I experience and Cerner EMR proficiency for a night shift assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a level I trauma emergency room within an acute care setting
  • Patient population includes trauma, burns, cardiac, spinal cord, and behavioral health patients with pediatric transfers
  • Assignment includes both acute and subacute beds, with trauma bays not assigned to travelers
  • Patient ratio is typically 1:4
  • Uses Cerner EMR system; recent Cerner experience is required
  • 12-hour night shifts with four weekend shifts per four weeks
  • Holidays required: two out of four major holidays
  • Floating may occur between the main campus, Westgate, and two freestanding ERs—all within a 30-minute drive
  • Travel teams must have their own vehicles
  • Must wear navy scrubs
  • Primarily responsible for providing advanced ER nursing care for a high-acuity, diverse patient population
  • Must maintain competence in sterile field and technical skills, as failure may result in termination during orientation
  • Floor-specific orientation includes 2-3 shifts
  • Must adhere to a strict dress code including natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit tests
  • Holiday and weekend coverage required per unit scheduling needs
  • Team support includes 2 charge RNs and multiple PCTs per shift
  • Must be comfortable floating mid-shift between affiliated ER locations
  • First day includes pass/fail skills evaluation in SIMs Lab relevant to ER procedures

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • At least 2 years of ER nursing experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of trauma level I experience as a staff and/or traveler; will consider 8+ months with screening
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • Experience with Phillips telemetry monitoring and proficiency in reading strips
  • Must have recent and documented Cerner experience
  • Must pass a pre-employment dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with two attempts allowed
  • Pass/fail exam on sterile technique for Foley catheter and port-a-cath insertion on Day 1 of orientation
  • Must be able to lift, perform wound care, and adhere to facility restraint policies as part of onboarding
  • No first-time travelers permitted
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the last year
  • Must live at least 50 miles from facility as verified by driver’s license
  • Two recent professional references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past three years
