Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring high acuity L&D and Level 3 NICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 OB ED triage beds, and 4 antepartum rooms
• Care for all types of pregnant patients, including high-risk and low-intervention laboring cases
• Unit supports antepartum, L&D, OB triage, postpartum/couplet care, and infants
• Patient ratios include 1:3 antepartum, 1:2 inactive labor, 1:1 active labor, and 1:3 couplets for postpartum care
• Must be comfortable working both day and night 12-hour shifts per contract needs
• Required to provide postpartum/couplet care during contract
• Epic EMR is used
• Every other weekend required
• No call required
• Holidays required as needed
• No local travelers accepted within a 100-mile radius
• Responsible for care of high-risk and low-risk laboring patients, as well as antepartum, OB triage, postpartum/couplet care, and infants
• Orientation includes 4 days with a preceptor (3 in L&D, 1 in postpartum)
• Unit is supported by a secretary, scrub tech, charge nurse, VAT team, RT, 24/7 OB physician team, and anesthesia/CRNA
• Scrub color is cobalt blue and provided by the hospital
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

• All time off requests require manager approval

Requirements

• Active South Dakota or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience in a Level 3 or higher L&D unit
• Experience managing high-acuity labor patients including preeclampsia, preterm labor, and antepartum patients less than 35 weeks gestation
• Must demonstrate competency with IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate, blood administration, insulin, C-section circulating, and C-section recovery care
• Epic charting experience required or must have manager approval if lacking
• Preferred qualifications include ACLS, electronic fetal monitoring, inpatient obstetric certification, or inpatient antepartum certification
• Highly prefer experience with Level 2 nursery or higher baby care
• Graduation from a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
