Job Description

American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU night shift position requiring Level I trauma and strong cardiac experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Coronary Care/Cardiovascular ICU within an acute hospital setting
  • Unit has 24 beds and serves high-acuity cardiovascular and post-cardiac surgery patients, including transplants
  • Typical ratios are 1:1-2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
  • Common cases include cardiac surgery recovery, Impella, IABP, CRRT, ECMO, lung transplants, thoracic surgery, and TAVR
  • High number of bedside procedures, including bronchs, Swans, and epidurals
  • Cerner is used for EMR charting
  • Travelers will float to other ICUs and telemetry units as required, including Westgate campus
  • Night shifts are 12 hours, working 7pm-7am
  • Three weekend shifts are required within each 4-week schedule
  • Holiday shifts are assigned based on unit rotation
  • Navy scrubs are required as dress code
  • Main responsibilities include caring for post-cardiac surgery and transplant patients, managing advanced cardiac devices, and performing frequent bedside procedures
  • Travelers will float before permanent staff and may float to multiple ICU and telemetry units
  • Team includes charge nurse (no patient assignment), 2 PCTs per shift at high census, 24/7 RT and pharmacy, and in-house intensivist days/on-call at night
  • Travelers must have their own vehicle for commuting between campuses if required
  • A pass/fail SIMs Lab and orientation skills check on day one is required, and failure results in ineligibility for six months
  • Candidates must have natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean shaven for fit testing
  • Holiday coverage aligned to departmental rotation
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience required, CVICU experience preferred
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required, CCRN preferred
  • Level I trauma experience is required
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to offer (two attempts permitted)
  • Strong IV skills necessary as there is no IV team support
  • Must pass a SIMs Lab on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
  • Ability to work with high-acuity patients and complex cardiac equipment
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Returning candidates must not have been employed by the health system within the past year
