Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Observation Unit night shift role requiring a MI RN license and expertise in med/surg and telemetry.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in the Observation Unit specializing in chest pain and critical decision cases in a hospital setting
- Adult patient population with common diagnoses including chest pain, asthma exacerbations, TIA, abdominal pain, urinary issues, blood sugar issues, DVT/PE, cellulitis, post-procedural monitoring, and minor trauma
- Unit has 10 beds with an approximate 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Floats required to medical, cardiac, and neuro-ortho units as needed
- Uses cardiac monitoring equipment and Cerner EHR system
- 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, including weekends and holidays
- No mandated call requirements
- Responsible for caring for adult patients on observation status and performing cardiac monitoring and post-procedure observation
- Orientation is bi-weekly
- Galaxy blue scrubs required
- Holiday shifts are required as part of the schedule
- Travelers considered for floating assignments based on needs
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of med/surg experience required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale Competency and Tele/ECG Competency required
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Optional advanced certifications: TNCC, ENPC
- Cerner EHR experience preferred
- Date of birth and Social Security number required for consideration
- Must not have worked as permanent staff at any LifePoint facility within the last 12 months
- Permanent address must be at least 60 miles from facility
- Cannot be employed elsewhere full time
- RQI certifications not accepted

I have never worked anywhere that runs like this facility. They have very limited resources in the upper peninsula. The staffing is always short. The nurses normally do a lot of tech work daily very unorganized difficult to complete tasks because of the way the unit is run. The people are great, but I don’t see any improvement here for a very long time
