Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a busy, high-acuity Level III trauma center, requiring a WA or compact RN license and a minimum of 3 years of large-volume ED experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 34-bed Emergency Department with 12 additional hallway beds at a high-volume Level III trauma center
• Patient population includes neonate through geriatric, trauma, pediatrics, stroke, cardiac, behavioral health, and substance use disorder
• Handles up to 250-300 patients per day in a zoned ER set-up, including fast track with 13 'green zone' beds
• Typical patient ratios are 1:3-5 based on acuity
• Shifts are 12 hours, primarily nights, with potential variable start times within evening/night ranges
• Weekend rotation required, typically every other weekend, and expected to cover 1-2 holidays per contract
• No floating to other units required
• Uses Epic EMR (strongly recommended), Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Responsibilities include care for a high-acuity, diverse ED patient population from neonates to geriatrics
• Expected to stabilize and transfer out complex neurosurgery, multi-system trauma, and high-acuity pediatric patients
• Support team includes ED techs, medical assistants, charge nurses, phlebotomists, hospitalists, and security
• RN is responsible for phlebotomy duties, especially during nighttime shifts
• Orientation includes hospital onboarding and 1-2 shifts with preceptor support on the unit
• Flexible scheduling with a 6-week cycle posted in advance
• Scrub color is any, without logos

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• At least 3 years of experience in a high-acuity, large-volume Emergency Department setting
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC
• Strong emergency, critical care, and pediatric nursing skills required
• Experience with chest tubes, arterial lines, blood administration, Bipap/ventilators, and splinting required
• Proficient in barcode scanning medication administration
• Must pass the hospital's triage test before being allowed to triage
• Experience with trauma, code cases, and managing medication drips required
• Epic EMR experience is strongly preferred
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
