Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a stepdown telemetry position requiring a PA or compact RN license and advanced cardiac skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 28-bed stepdown/telemetry unit within an acute care hospital
• Patient population includes heavy cardiac cases, dysrhythmias, CVAs, and patients downgraded from ICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, with a ratio of 1:6 for MedSurg acuity
• Uses both Epic and Cerner EMR systems
• Vent management includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow
• RNs work three 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) per week, with every other weekend and one winter holiday required
• Floating to ICU as helping hands may be required
• Central monitor station responsibilities for the hospital are part of the role
• RNs are responsible for monitoring cardiac rhythms and titrating vasoactive drips
• No IV team is present; ICU support available for difficult IV starts
• Hospitalist is in-house 24/7, intensivist available daily and on-call after hours
• Two nurse aides per day and mid-shift; no CNA support after 11p on nights
• Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor
• Navy blue scrubs and jackets are required
• Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff; one winter holiday per contract is required
• Candidates must not have worked at any WVU Medicine location in the past 2 years
• Travelers may not work within WVU facilities for longer than one year without a 2-year break
• No local travelers are accepted; must live more than 50 miles from facility

Requirements

• Active PA or compact RN license is required
• Minimum of 2 years recent stepdown or telemetry experience
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips is required
• Must have experience titrating drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin
• Must submit an unexpired copy of driver’s license for consideration
