Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level I trauma center night shift position requiring trauma experience and AZ or compact RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital Emergency Department (ER) with Level I trauma designation
- Assignment covers acute care with 36 beds and subacute care with 54 beds
- Trauma bays are present but not staffed by travelers
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
- Population includes trauma, cardiac, burns, pediatrics (transferred out), and psychiatric holds
- Estimated 250-300 patients per day with approximately 88,000 annual visits
- 12-hour night shifts with a requirement of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
- Holiday coverage is based on unit needs
- Staff may be required to float between the main facility, Westgate campus, and two free standing ERs within the region
- Cerner EMR is used and Cerner experience is preferred
- Phillips telemetry monitors are used and candidates must be able to read strips
- Orientation includes 12 hours and 2-3 days of floor-specific training
- Responsibilities include direct patient care for trauma, cardiac, burn, and psych patients in a fast-paced ER setting
- Travelers may be floated mid-shift between four emergency facilities within approximately 30 minutes of each other
- An interdisciplinary team supports patient care including 2-8 MDs, midlevels, an anesthesia team, pharmacy, RT, and nurse aides
- Training includes a SIMs Lab and educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care in accordance with facility policy
- Scrub color for this assignment is navy
- First day includes a pass/fail exam on sterile technique; failure on second attempt results in disqualification for 6 months
- Holiday and weekend shifts are assigned based on unit coverage needs
- Use of own vehicle is necessary for float/team assignments
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact (NLC) RN license required at submission
- Minimum of 2 years recent ER RN experience
- At least 1 year of Level I trauma experience as perm staff or traveler (8 months or more considered upon screening)
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS (TNCC and ATCN preferred)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to accepting position with 2 attempts allowed
- Must complete and pass a skills lab on sterile technique, Foley catheter insertion, and port-a-cath insertion during orientation
- Candidates may not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit facility within the past year
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility as verified by driver’s license
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit test compliance
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings are required for staff on duty
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
