Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a current CA license, ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and at least two years of recent ICU experience for a night shift position.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 20-bed ICU within an acute care hospital setting
• Night shifts are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with every other weekend required
• Float to adult general ICU unit as needed
• Patient ratios are 1:1-2 depending on acuity
• Patient population includes neuro trauma, cardiac surgery, open heart, post cath, aortic dissection, fem-pop, thoracotomies, and CRRT cases
• Commonly administers vasoactive drips such as norepinephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, and precadex
• Uses Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators and Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment
• Cerner is the charting system in use; experience preferred but not required
• Monitor tech available if census is high, but nurses must interpret telemetry strips
• 24/7 in-house intensivist, RT, and pharmacy support
• First to float to other ICU units as needed
• Intensivist coverage is available on site 24/7 for immediate support
• Navy scrubs are required while working
• Holiday shifts are rotated with permanent staff
• Floor-specific orientation is provided for one shift
• Returning candidates must not have been employed by the health system in the past 12 months
• Passing basic competency tests on dysrhythmia and sterile technique is required prior to or during orientation
• No nurse aides are present on the unit; nurses provide all aspects of patient care
• Self-scheduling is used whenever possible but not guaranteed

Requirements

• Active CA RN license in hand at the time of application (pending not accepted)
• Minimum of 2 years recent ICU nursing experience required
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), COVID vaccination
• Two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
• Must provide copy of driver's license for consideration
