Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Room RN with a current CA license and advanced certifications to join a high-volume, non-trauma center emergency department.

Responsibilities

• Position is based in a busy acute care emergency room with approximately 270-350 visits per day
• Unit includes 62 beds, with additional hallway beds and chairs
• Patient ratios are 1:4 and nurses are expected to work with all ages, including a dedicated pediatric zone
• Common diagnoses include critical care cases, CVA, STEMI, sepsis, and high ICU admission rates
• Phillips telemetry monitoring is used and nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry without a tele tech
• Charting is done using Cerner; Cerner experience is required
• Must work 12-hour shifts starting at 11:00 am, with a requirement to work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
• No floating to other units is required
• Orientation consists of up to 2 floor-specific shifts
• All required online training modules must be completed before arrival
• Charge nurses are present on both shifts and typically do not take patient assignments
• Team includes ER techs to assist with EKGs and vital signs, as well as 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support
• Nurses participate in all patient care areas within the ER, including a pediatric zone
• Expect a dynamic environment with nursing and paramedic students as well as student nurse externs rotating through the department
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Holiday coverage requires working 2 of the 3 major holidays during the contract period
• Candidates must not have been employed directly by facilities within the same health system in the past year

Requirements

• Active and current CA RN license is required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum of 3 years recent ER experience is required
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS are required
• Cerner EMR experience is required
• Must be able to safely monitor and interpret telemetry and manage ventilated patients pending transfer
• Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
• References required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• No first-time travelers will be considered for this position
