Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Float Pool position with med/surg, telemetry, and stepdown coverage, requiring a PA or compact RN license and strong cardiac skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital acute care setting within the float pool, covering both med/surg and stepdown/telemetry units
• Med/surg units include private rooms and care for post-surgical, ortho, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative, hospice, and some inpatient chemo and COVID patients
• Stepdown unit specializes in heavy cardiac cases such as dysrhythmias, CVAs, and ICU downgrades
• Patient ratios for med/surg are 1:6-7; stepdown/telemetry ratios are 1:4-5
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required and rotating holiday coverage
• Floats may occur between med/surg, stepdown, and occasionally to ICU as helping hands
• Epic EMR is used; previous Epic experience is helpful
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling options are available to meet unit needs
• RN responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips in the stepdown unit
• Support from in-house hospitalists, intensivists, pharmacy, and 24/7 respiratory therapy
• Navy blue scrubs are required for this assignment
• Floor-specific orientation provided: 1 shift with a preceptor for med/surg; 2 shifts for stepdown
• First-time travelers are accepted for this role
• Travelers must live more than 50 miles from the facility for eligibility
• Returning travelers must have a two-year break if previously employed at any WVU Medicine location
• Holiday shifts are included in the permanent staff rotation
• Must pass EKG testing if assigned to stepdown, ICU, or telemetry units

Requirements

• Active PA or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required for stepdown/telemetry coverage
• Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience required
• Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills necessary for telemetry/stepdown assignments
• Experience with titrating drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin required
• Must be comfortable caring for both 'clean' and COVID ('dirty') patients simultaneously
• Ability to manage Bipap, Cpap, and high flow oxygen as part of patient care
