Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in the Visual Monitor Unit with Level I trauma and telemetry experience required.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Visual Monitor Unit, a MedSurg/Telemetry unit within an acute care Level I trauma setting
- 14-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient population includes those with medical needs and secondary psychiatric or behavioral health diagnoses
- Every patient room is video monitored, with additional support from behavior health techs and security staff
- Uses Cerner EMR system
- 12-hour day shifts from 7am to 7pm, with work every 3rd weekend
- Expected to float to ED psych holds and other MedSurg units as needed
- No ventilator patients
- Required to wear navy scrubs and carry panic buttons
- Holiday shifts follow permanent staff rotation
- Primary responsibilities include providing medical and telemetry care to patients with co-occurring psychiatric or behavioral health needs
- Collaboration with an in-unit psychiatric physician, behavior techs, and security personnel
- SIMs Lab is mandatory and must be passed on the first day of orientation; failure after two attempts results in ineligibility for 6 months
- Chemical restraints are more commonly used than physical restraints
- Orientation specific to the floor consists of two shifts
- Weekend and holiday work are required according to the assigned rotation
- First-time travelers with adequate MedSurg/Telemetry skills and desire to work with mentally ill patients will be considered
- Minimum residence distance requirements apply for candidates in certain states
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration, pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years recent MedSurg/Telemetry RN experience
- Level I trauma experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Must pass dysrhythmia (DYS) examination prior to offer, with two attempts allowed
- Competency in sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes assessed on day one of orientation through a pass/fail SIMs Lab
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and a second supervisor or peer reference from within the last 3 years
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Cannot have been employed directly (full, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past 12 months
