Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology position in Washington, DC, requiring a valid DC RN license and strong oncology skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a hospital setting
  • Day shifts, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Patient population includes adults with cancer diagnoses such as prostate, breast, colorectal, cervical/endometrial, head and neck, and lung cancers
  • Duties involve care and management of ports and central lines, acute oncology emergencies, and radiation therapy
  • Charting is done using Cerner EMR
  • Expected to perform office duties such as chart preparation, form completion, pharmacy calls, and telephone triage
  • Responsibilities include patient education for new consults and simulations, managing side effects from treatments, and collaborating with social workers and nutritionists
  • Must work closely with multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Radiation safety precautions and neutropenic care required
  • Pre-start modules and orientation will be assigned, averaging approximately 12 hours
  • No more than 7 days of requested time off is preferred for a 13-week contract; no RTO allowed in the first two weeks
  • Local candidates within 60 miles are accepted at a local rate
  • Return staff must have a minimum one-year break since last employment to be eligible

Requirements

  • Active DC RN license required at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years of oncology nursing experience required
  • At least one prior travel assignment required, unless otherwise screened
  • Experience with care of central and implanted lines, tracheostomy management, and oncologic emergencies such as ATLS and sepsis
  • Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
  • Two supervisor references from the past two years required
