Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Pediatric Psychiatric unit with behavioral health experience and the ability to float between adult and pediatric patients.
Responsibilities
- Work in a free-standing acute inpatient psychiatric facility
- Pediatric unit with patients aged 5-18; adult unit with patients 18+
- Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-6 during the day and 1:13 at night with additional psych tech support
- Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult psychiatric units as needed
- Shift is 7AM-7PM with every other weekend required, no on-call responsibilities
- Uses Cerner for electronic charting and Pyxis for medication administration
- Seclusion rooms are used when necessary
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Strong multidisciplinary team support including nurse supervisors, psych techs, house administrators, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, and a psychiatrist
- Must not have previously held permanent employment at any Northern Light Health Hospital
- Flu vaccination required for all assignments with start dates after September 30, 2024; only medical exemptions will be considered
- Expected to work assigned holidays as part of rotation
- Professional solid color scrubs required
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Free onsite parking available
- Heavy snow conditions are expected during winter months
Requirements
- Active ME or compact RN license required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required
- Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred; candidates without this will require manager approval
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and physical restraints required
- Ability to safely administer medications and document in Cerner
- Must be able to run group therapy sessions
- MOAB certification will be provided during orientation
