Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 Trauma assignment requiring Level 1 trauma experience and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities
- Adult ICU Pods within a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting, including MICU, SICU, and Trauma ICU units
- Unit serves a diverse critical care population with medical, surgical, and trauma cases, including transplant and trauma patients
- 40 beds per unit, 120 beds total across the ICU
- Common cases include sepsis, DKA, organ transplants, trauma, MVAs, and more
- Bedside procedures such as bronchs, trachs, and hemodialysis catheter placements are performed
- RNs expected to titrate drips and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Uses Cerner EMR
- 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) with self-scheduling, three weekend shifts every four weeks, and holidays covered with core staff
- Floating required among all ICU pods, St. Joseph Westgate campus, and may include MedSurg/Tele units
- Orientation includes two shifts on the unit and a SIMs Lab day
- Main responsibilities include managing critically ill or injured adult patients with complex needs in a fast-paced trauma environment
- Intensivist and respiratory therapy staff provided 24/7 in the ICU
- RNs must use own vehicles for potential travel between campuses
- Navy scrubs required
- No artificial hair color or facial piercings permitted; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Pass/fail skills assessment on sterile procedures is mandatory on the first day
- Candidates who fail the dysrhythmia or sterile technique test on the second attempt will be ineligible for employment with the health system for six months
- Previous employees of this health system within the last year are not eligible
- Holiday assignments follow standard rotation with core staff
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact RN license in hand at the time of application
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in a 600+ bed teaching hospital
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
- Must have recent Level 1 trauma ICU experience
- Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts permitted)
- Must pass a sterile technique SIMs Lab on Day 1 covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Must provide a copy of driver's license for address verification (50-mile radius rule applies for AZ residence)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
