Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care/Observation Unit position requiring an OH or compact license, charge experience, and advanced medication management.

Responsibilities

• Work in a mixed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Med Surg Tele environment
• Department includes observation medicine and telemetry
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics presenting with diverse diagnoses such as chest pain, A-fib, CHF, COPD, and post-surgical complications
• Patient ratio is 1:4 on all shifts
• Unit is fast-paced with a length of stay goal of 18-24 hours
• Uses EPIC charting system – prior experience required
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• Rotating weekend coverage required (every other weekend)
• Floating within service line, including between various specialties (Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, Trauma, Oncology, etc.) and between multiple facilities as needed
• Level 1 trauma center environment
• Observation medicine experience preferred
• Care for a variety of acute medical, neurological, and post-surgical cases
• Frequent communication and collaboration with EDOBS (emergency department observation) providers
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Navy blue scrubs required
• RTO requests exceeding seven days require management approval
• Schedules may change with two weeks’ notice based on staffing needs

Requirements

• Active OH or compact state RN license required at time of submission
• Minimum 2 years recent RN experience in PCU, Med Surg Tele, or similar unit
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Charge nurse experience required
• Must be familiar with intermediate medication drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, cardizem, and insulin
• Epic charting system experience required
• No local travelers residing within 50 miles of the facility
