Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position in a Level 1 trauma acute care setting, requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and recent Level 1 trauma experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an acute care hospital on the Cardiac Telemetry (Tower 7) unit
  • Patient population includes post-op cardiovascular surgery and cardiac patients such as CABG, MVR, STEMI, HF, fundoplication, VATS decortication, and vascular repair
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 or 1:4
  • Common drips include heparin, cardizem, and amiodarone which require titration
  • Must interpret common cardiac rhythms using GE telemetry packs and monitors; tele techs are off-unit
  • RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow nasal cannula
  • Uses Cerner EMR system
  • Night shifts, 12 hours in length, with three weekend shifts required in a four-week block
  • Holiday shifts required based on unit coverage
  • Floating to other applicable areas as needed
  • Navy blue scrubs required; scrubs are not provided
  • Daily responsibilities include titrating cardiac drips and interpreting telemetry rhythms
  • Charge nurse typically does not carry patient assignment; supported by one PCT per 16 beds
  • Initial two-day unit orientation provided
  • Applicants must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Skill evaluation includes SIMs Lab for sterile procedures, and failure will result in ineligibility for 6 months within system
  • Mandatory pass/fail testing occurs on orientation day for key skills
  • Returning candidates may not have been employed by specified affiliated health systems within the past year
  • Self-scheduling is available with shifts balanced by the scheduler
  • Holiday coverage is mandatory depending on unit needs
  • All staff must secure their own transportation

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience and recent Level 1 trauma experience required
  • Passage of the Relias Dysrhythmia exam is required prior to offer
  • Must pass a skills assessment simulating sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day 1 of orientation; two attempts allowed
  • Two professional references required, including one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past three years
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration; must meet 50 mile radius rule based on permanent address
  • Experience with post-op cardiovascular surgery patients is highly recommended but not required
