Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring at least two years of recent PICU experience and a NM or compact license.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within a hospital setting
- Unit size exceeds 12 beds for critically ill pediatric patients
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient status and assignments
- Day shifts, twelve hours in duration, with weekend and on-call requirements as needed
- Floating between departments and locations within 20 miles is required
- Epic EMR is used and experience is preferred
- Responsibilities include direct patient care, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation for pediatric patients
- Collaboration with the healthcare team and patient families is required
- Supervision of LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel is part of this role
- Protocol education and age-specific competency testing must be completed per unit standards
- First day orientation includes required pass/fail cardiac arrhythmia testing
- Candidates failing the required testing twice will not be able to continue on assignment
Requirements
- Active RN license in NM or a compact state is required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross are required
- At least two years of recent experience in a 12+ bed pediatric ICU is required
- Must have completed at least one 13-week travel assignment
- Pediatric CVICU experience is preferred
- Associate degree in nursing (ADN/ASN) required
- Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia Testing must be passed on-site during orientation, with only one allowed retake
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
- Previous permanent staff may only return as travelers after a one-year waiting period
