Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in a P4 Trauma Center with critical care skills and required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a busy Emergency Department within a P4 Trauma Center setting
• 28-bed unit with 2 designated trauma/code rooms and 2 psych/seclusion rooms
• Handles patient population including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics presenting with medical, surgical, trauma, stroke, and sepsis cases
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 with an average of 70-75 patients treated per day
• Uses Epic EMR system
• Utilizes bedside monitors without monitor techs; RNs interpret ECGs and draw radial ABGs
• Critical care drips managed, including TPA, sedation, paralytics, and use of vents, BiPAP, and CPAP
• 3x12 hour day shifts with weekend and rotational holiday coverage as scheduled
• No floating requirements and no on-call or standby shifts
• RNs are responsible for managing their own ER holds unless float support is provided
• Interdisciplinary team supported by ED physicians, mid-levels, charge nurse (non-assigned), and 24/7 house supervisor
• ER techs provide support with EKG, transport, CPR, and vital signs
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 by call with access to advanced respiratory equipment
• Orientation includes general hospital, nursing, and computer training plus two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor
• Solid navy scrubs required; undershirts in white, grey, or black; closed-toe shoes only
• No local travelers accepted; candidates must live more than 50 miles from facility
• Returning employees must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine facility before reapplying
• Assignments at WVU facilities limited to one year before a mandatory 2-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 1 year of recent ER or critical care experience
• Certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, PALS, TNCC
• Experience with critical care skills such as managing cardiac dysrhythmias, administering and titrating critical drips, and operating mechanical ventilation equipment
• Ability to draw radial ABGs and interpret bedside monitor strips
