Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a night-shift ICU RN with Michigan license, ICU experience, and required certifications for a mixed ICU/PCU environment.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital ICU with a mix of ICU and PCU patient populations
• Patient ratios vary from 1:1 for high acuity or CRRT/cooling patients to 4:1 for PCU and gen med/transfer status, dependent on acuity
• Ventilator patients are managed at a 2:1 ratio, and average is 3 vented patients daily
• Special procedures include CRRT, hemodialysis, A-line placement, CVC and trach placement, and chest tube care
• Utilizes equipment such as ventilators, cooling machines, Bair Huggers, and massive transfusion protocol
• Night shift position, working four 12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
• Required to float to other ICU and Med Surg units as needed, with med-surg nurse-to-patient ratios approximately 5-6:1
• Must be available for the entire orientation week
• Required to work every other weekend
• Care for patients with diagnoses such as COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
• Manage high acuity procedures and rapid changes in patient status in collaboration with the ICU physician team
• Will work with a multidisciplinary team and rotate floating duties with core and travel staff
• Expected to assist with BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, suctioning (ETT, NT), and CRRT as needed
• Compliance with hospital orientation and attendance policies is mandatory

Requirements

• Active MI RN license or pending MI license with concrete ETA
• Certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH
• Minimum of 1 year recent ICU RN experience
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure
• Proficiency in IV therapy, cardiac and vasoactive drip titration, continuous IV sedation, central/arterial line and PICC management
• Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and advanced respiratory and metabolic patient populations
• First-time travelers will be considered
