Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in an acute care setting requiring a CA RN license and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in an 18-bed Emergency Room within an acute care hospital
• Patient ratios are 1:4, or 1:2 for ICU patients
• Treats approximately 100 patients per day, including correctional, homeless, and indigent populations
• Limited pediatric cases and no cardiac patients (stabilized and transferred out)
• Uses Cerner EMR; telemetry equipment is Phillips; vents, Omnicell, RT, and pharmacy available 24/7
• 12-hour evening and night shifts with a 3pm start and every other weekend required
• Required to float between two nearby facilities, with at least 2 hours notice for pre-shift floating
• Self-scheduling is available but finalized by the manager; block scheduling not guaranteed
• Floor-specific orientation includes two shifts at the primary site and one at the secondary
• Scrub color requirement is navy blue, including jackets; undershirts must be navy, white, or black
• Provide care for a diverse emergency room patient population
• Must be highly teamwork-oriented to support a collaborative unit environment
• Must treat this as your primary job with no work schedule accommodations for other employment
• Required to work at least four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule and cover one major and one minor holiday
• Floor orientation includes three total shifts split between two campuses
• Facility does not consider candidates with direct CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity employment in the past year (PRN via outside firms eligible)
• Testing on sterile technique may be required during orientation
• First to float among staff when needed

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at time of consideration (pending not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years recent experience in an Emergency Department setting
• Current ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Ability to work evening and night shifts and every other weekend
• References required: one supervisor reference from the past 12 months, one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years (must include dates of employment and rehire eligibility)
• Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
