Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced PCU RN with a MO or compact license, 2 years of telemetry or step-down experience, and required BLS/ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a short term acute care teaching hospital
  • Patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5
  • Frequent patient diagnoses include CHF, arrhythmias, ACS, heart valve disease, CAD, hypertensive crisis, and acute renal failure
  • Care for LVAD, heart transplant, and CT surgery patients
  • Perform specialized procedures such as cardiac catheterization, pacemaker/AICD placement, echocardiogram, stress tests, cardioversion, and arterial pressure monitoring
  • Required to care for lower acuity patients during unit transition to PCU
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30) with every other weekend required
  • Float within service line before floating house-wide as needed
  • No on-call requirement
  • EMR is Epic; Epic experience required
  • Provide comprehensive cardiac care including management of LVADs and advanced cardiac therapies
  • May care for patients recovering from cardiac and thoracic surgeries, heart transplants, and complex cardiac procedures
  • Scrub color is navy
  • Night shift employees may park in employee lot at no charge; other shifts require parking pass for additional fee
  • Must submit RTO requests in advance and may not exceed a total of 40 hours (5 days) during contract
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Testing and modules are part of orientation with up to 16 hours paid for completion

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license
  • Minimum 2 years recent step-down or telemetry nursing experience
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Comfort and proficiency with EKG interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam prior to start
  • Experience with cardiac drips and caring for cardiac patients
  • Epic charting experience required for specific units
  • First time travelers accepted
  • Candidates must live at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Pending license accepted for consideration
