Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Special Care Nursery position requiring NICU experience and Maryland or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Special Care Nursery within a hospital family birthplace unit
• Day shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 07:00 to 19:30
• Every other weekend and holiday coverage required as scheduled
• May float within the specialty as needed
• On-call responsibilities are required as scheduled
• Care for preterm infants under and over 32 weeks, infants requiring oxygen therapy, CPAP, IV therapy, and newborns needing resuscitation or supportive transitional care
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary based on case stage, including 1:4 for triage and post-partum, 1:2 for early labor/induction, and 1:1 for active labor and CD
• Specialized equipment used includes IV pumps, enteral feeding pumps, Giraffe/Panda warmers, breastmilk warmers, and Pyxis medication dispensing systems
• Responsibilities include administering blood transfusions, placing UV lines for extremely premature infants, and supporting late preterm or term newborns that require resuscitation
• Infants requiring intubation/ventilation or TPN are stabilized and transferred to a higher level of care
• Team environment caring for high-acuity newborns requiring specialized supportive care
• First-time travelers may be considered if they have strong relevant experience, including NICU experience

Requirements

• Active RN license valid in Maryland or compact state
• Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
• NICU experience required
• Experience caring for preterm and newborn infants in special care or NICU settings required
