Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a CT or compact RN license and recent trauma center experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in the Emergency Department of a large short-term acute care hospital
  • Level I Trauma Center with diverse, high-acuity adult and pediatric patient populations
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 7:00 to 19:00
  • Assigned to one primary campus with potential cross-training and floating to other campuses as needed
  • Patient ratios average 1:6 across days, nights, and weekends
  • Use of Epic EMR system
  • No trauma/rescue room, triage, or locked behavioral health unit assignments for travelers
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call responsibility
  • Primary responsibilities include delivering critical assessment, stabilization, and care to emergency department patients in a fast-paced trauma setting
  • May be required to float to similar units within the organization according to departmental needs after cross-training
  • Not responsible for triage, trauma/rescue rooms, or locked behavioral health unit cases
  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Facility allows up to 7 days RTO to be auto-approved; requests exceeding this require approval
  • If scheduled weekend shift is missed, a make-up shift must be completed on another weekend during the same schedule period
  • Returning permanent staff must have a 2-year separation before being eligible for traveler consideration
  • Parking is available for $125 per month
  • Compliance with hospital policies and participation in emergency response or natural disaster activities is required
  • Team-oriented environment in an academic Level I trauma center

Requirements

  • Active CT or compact state RN license required (pending license accepted if in process)
  • BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required
  • At least 1.5 years of recent emergency department experience in a similar trauma center setting required; 2 years preferred
  • Must not have prior disciplinary actions on nursing license
  • Must have prior large trauma center experience
  • Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted and COVID vaccination/booster required (exemptions for medical/religious only)
  • Must live at least 75 miles from the facility to qualify for travel status; locals not permitted
