Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a regional hospital setting with 18 months recent Med/Tele experience and NC or compact RN license required.

Responsibilities

• Position is based in a hospital medical/surgical telemetry unit
• Unit may include general med/tele and 7North/South Ortho Surgical with orthopedic and post-surgical patients
• RN patient ratio typically 1:5-6, surge 1:7-8
• Night shift position, 1900-0700
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• No on-call or callback required
• Floating required within region to multiple facilities and units within scope of practice, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division, CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH (peds only)
• EMR: Epic; IV Pumps: Alaris; Medication Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Phillips
• Hospital offers chest pain and stroke center services
• Duties include care for med/tele, general medical overflow, and post-surgical orthopedic patients including joint replacements and spinal surgeries
• Support staff includes CNA, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
• Facility provides a two-day departmental orientation in addition to system orientation
• Scrub color is navy
• Free parking is provided
• First-time travelers may be considered but are not preferred
• Up to 6 days of RTO allowed, excluding holidays, with requirement to extend contract if hours are not met

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Minimum 18 months recent Med/Tele RN experience
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Ortho experience and knowledge of spinal precautions required for Ortho Surgical units
• Competency in stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, PCA pumps, and management of cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from assigned facility
