Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac ICU position in a fast-paced environment requiring a NE or compact RN license and critical care certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU within an acute hospital setting
  • 16-bed unit serving young adults to geriatrics with conditions such as sepsis, STEMI, stroke, neurosurgery recovery, renal failure, respiratory failure, COPD, cancer, and DKA
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2, with 1:1 assignments for TPA, balloon pump, or craniotomy recovery
  • Night shifts are 12 hours (1830-0700) with scheduling managed by unit schedulers
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage is required as needed
  • Floating is mainly to PCU but may include all hospital areas based on ability
  • Epic is used for EMR documentation
  • Advanced equipment includes Gaymar hypothermia, Arrow balloon pump, Camino neuro monitoring, CRRT, Impella, EVDs, and lumbar drains; this unit performs ICPs and occasional balloon pumps
  • RNs are required to titrate sedation, paralytic, pressor, antihypertensive, heparin, and insulin drips
  • RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry/monitor strips
  • Responsibilities include titrating sedation, paralytic, pressor, antihypertensive, heparin, and insulin drips as well as advanced critical care interventions
  • Work with eICU remote monitoring and support, alongside a charge nurse and nurse aides (1:10 support ratio)
  • Unit values bedside shift reports and intentional hourly rounding
  • Must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90 percent
  • Two unit-specific orientation shifts and an additional 12 hours of general orientation are provided
  • Culturally diverse patient population; ability to communicate or work effectively with non-English-speaking patients is important
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront and may not exceed 7 days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license must be in hand at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience required
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), all current at time of consideration
  • Experience with acute care and critical care procedures and equipment
  • Ability to interpret telemetry/monitor strips and manage advanced critical care equipment
  • Must provide a copy of driver's license for consideration and address verification
  • Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
  • Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
  • Must not be a current full-time, part-time, or PRN employee of any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
