Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position on nights in a Level II Trauma acute care setting requiring active ND or compact license and PCU experience.
Responsibilities
- Acute care hospital setting in a combined Med/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- 32-bed unit providing stepdown level care to adults and geriatric patients
- Common cases include cardiac cath, EP studies, pacemaker, ETOH, Covid Bipap, general surgical with cardiac history, sepsis, influenza, and acute chronic conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5, with occasional 1:5-6 on nights and 1:3 for PCU overflow
- Night shifts with every other weekend and holiday requirement
- Floating required throughout PCU, Med/Surg, and may assist in ER holds/boarding; first to float
- Uses the Epic EMR system; experience preferred but not required
- Charge nurse present on every shift; may have a lighter assignment
- Support from patient care techs with a goal ratio of 1:10
- RNs required to interpret their own telemetry strips
- Bipap, trach, and Airvo equipment used in the unit
- Scrubs of any color are permitted
- RNs provide care for a variety of cardiac and stepdown patients, including titration of multiple drips and frequent use of cardiac monitoring
- Frequent teamwork with multidisciplinary staff including techs and respiratory therapy
- First time travelers are accepted for this position
- Unit orientation includes two 12-hour shifts at the start of the assignment
- Candidates must not have been employed in any position (full time, part time, or PRN) at facilities associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- All requests for time off must be submitted up front and may not exceed 7 days for the 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with recent stepdown/PCU and telemetry experience
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; must be active and not pending
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips and titrate drips such as Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine
- Experience with adult and geriatric stepdown patient populations
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and either a peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
