Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position in Michigan requiring ICU and PCU experience, with ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a mixed ICU/PCU hospital setting caring for both medical ICU and progressive care patients
• Patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for high acuity, 2:1 for ventilated patients, 3:1 to 4:1 for mixed acuity, and 5-6:1 when floating to Med Surg units
• Special procedures performed include CRRT, hemodialysis, A-line, central and trach tube placements, and chest tube placement
• Equipment used includes ventilators, cooling machines, Bair Huggers, CRRT machines, and devices for massive transfusions
• Day shifts available with 12-hour shifts (7:00-19:30)
• Must work every other weekend
• Floating required to other ICU and Med Surg units as needed
• Must be available for the first 8 days of the assignment and the full week of orientation
• Responsible for managing a mixed acuity patient population in the ICU and progressive care environments
• Will need to administer and titrate critical medications and drips per unit protocols
• Work collaboratively with ICU physicians and other team members to determine patient acuity and assignment
• Orientation and training provided during the first week; assignment start requires availability for all orientation days
• First-time travelers are welcome for consideration

Requirements

• Active MI RN license in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale
• Minimum 1 year of ICU RN experience required
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and emergency response
• Endocrine/metabolic care experience including IV insulin protocols
• IV therapy experience with arterial lines, blood products, central line care, PICC lines, and starting IVs
• Proficiency with continuous IV sedation, titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips, and emergency medications
• Neurological experience with acute stroke/CVA management
• Respiratory management skills including BiPAP, CPAP, ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and suctioning
