Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring trauma experience and AZ or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a Level I Trauma Emergency Department within an acute care hospital setting
  • Assigned to the ER with a 1:4 RN-to-patient ratio
  • Must be willing to float between ERs at four campus locations, potentially including midshift float
  • Handles trauma, burns, cardiac, and high-acuity adult patients; pediatrics are transferred out
  • Unit includes 36 acute beds, 54 subacute beds, and 6 trauma bays
  • Weekend requirement is 4 shifts per 4-week period, night shifts of 12 hours
  • Patient volume is 250-300 per day with high acuity and 30-40 psych holds typical
  • Uses Cerner EMR; experience preferred
  • Telemetry monitored on Phillips equipment; must be able to read strips
  • Ancillary support includes PCTs, charge nurses, 24/7 RT, and pharmacy on site
  • Responsibilities include rapid assessment, trauma resuscitation, and care for a high-acuity patient population
  • SIMs Lab and orientation cover skills such as Foley catheter and port-a-cath insertion, with strict sterile technique adherence required
  • Testing requirements are pass/fail with only two attempts allowed
  • Scrub color is navy
  • Previous employees of any CommonSpirit facility within the last year are not eligible
  • Must be able to float within designated ERs and provide own transportation
  • Holiday coverage may be required as scheduled by unit
  • No first-time travelers or those lacking trauma experience will be considered

Requirements

  • Active unencumbered AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a Level I Trauma Center as permanent staff or traveler (8 months+ may be considered)
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS required; TNCC and ATCN preferred
  • Must pass Relias Dysrhythmia exam and sterile technique skills validation before orientation
  • Must submit two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
  • Candidate must provide a valid driver’s license for residency verification
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Clean-shaven for fit testing; natural hair color and no facial piercings required for compliance
