Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a Level 4 neonatal ICU night shift position, requiring an AZ or compact RN license and advanced neonatal certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Level 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospital setting
  • 71-bed NICU with 17 stepdown beds and common populations including premature, surgical, cardiac, genetic disorder, ECMO, and cooling cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2 in the ICU and 1:3 in Level 2
  • Shifts are 12-hour nights (7p-7a) with every 3rd weekend required
  • Care is supported by 24/7 in-house neonatologists, midlevels, RT, and pharmacy
  • Uses Cerner EMR; experience required
  • Phillips telemetry is utilized
  • Floating may be required to Mother Baby or Labor Care units for neonatal patients only
  • On-unit orientation is 2-3 days; includes SIMs Lab competency for Foley insertion
  • RNs are expected to maintain sterile field competency and complete skills labs and educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • Charge nurse and high-risk RN resource available with no patient assignment
  • One PCT per shift supports the unit
  • Scrub color requirement is navy
  • Must work 3 out of 6 major holidays during assignment
  • Returning candidates cannot have been directly employed (FT, PT, PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • A permanent residence outside a specific mile radius may be required based on state
  • First day SIMs Lab and ongoing proficiency testing are strictly enforced

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum 3 years of Level 4 NICU experience required; will consider busy Level 3 experience
  • BLS and NRP certifications required; Cardiac STABLE certification strongly preferred
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (Relias) prior to employment; 80% passing score, two attempts allowed
  • Must pass a sterile technique SIMs lab for Foley catheter insertion on first day
  • Prior travel nurse experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Cerner EMR required
  • Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
