Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neurology Rehab position in an acute care Level 1 Trauma setting with night shifts and a strong Med Surg background required.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in the Neurology Rehab unit within an acute hospital
  • 52-bed unit with a patient ratio of 1 RN to 6 patients
  • Majority neuro patient population including TBI, brain tumor resection, CVA, and transplant cases
  • Three rehab physicians round daily with on-call coverage at night
  • Cerner EMR is used for charting on the unit
  • 12-hour night shifts with 4 weekend shifts required in an 8-week period
  • Holiday shifts are included as part of the core rotation
  • Floating required to any Med Surg unit as needed
  • SWAT RN available for difficult IV starts, RT and pharmacy available 24/7
  • Minimum 50-mile radius from permanent address to facility is required; driver's license used for verification
  • Clean-shaven requirement for males for fit test, natural hair color required, no facial piercings allowed
  • Scrub color for the unit is slate grey
  • Nurses participate in interdisciplinary rounds and partner closely with patients and families
  • Average length of stay for patients is 19-21 days
  • Training includes a 12-hour orientation and two floor-specific shifts
  • First-time travelers will not be considered
  • Returning candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by the health system in the past year
  • Busy periods are typically from 6–9 a.m. and 6:30–9 p.m.
  • Must be comfortable providing acute Med Surg care including IV therapy and wound management

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license must be in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience required
  • Previous Level 1 Trauma center experience is required
  • Strong Med Surg experience required; rehab experience preferred
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance with two attempts allowed
  • Documentation of driver's license required for consideration
  • Must provide 2 professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
  • Must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab skills assessment for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day one
