Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU night shift position requiring a compact or MD RN license and extensive recent ICU experience in large hospitals.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of a large hospital
• Night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• High-acuity ICU patient population including patients with complex medical diagnoses such as end stage renal and hepatic disease, multisystem organ failure, autoimmune and pulmonary disorders, critically ill antepartum and postpartum patients, oncology, ARDS, ESLD, ESRD, DIC, sepsis, IVDU, HIV, CHF, and lung transplant cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
• Required to work 3 out of every 6 weekends per 6-week schedule
• Float to other units of similar skill set as needed
• Availability for 2 on-call shifts per 6-week schedule
• Uses Epic EMR; experience preferred
• Orientation provided on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month
• Provide specialized care to a diverse, high-acuity adult patient population with complex and multisystem critical illnesses
• Must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a high-pressure environment
• Holiday coverage is required as needed
• Scrub or dress code details will be provided by the unit
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate, except for Howard County General which requires a 60-mile distance
• First-time travelers may not be considered; strong candidates preferred

Requirements

• Active MD or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2.5 years of strong ICU experience, including at least one contract in a MICU within a hospital of 500+ beds
• Prior experience in academic hospital settings is preferred
• Critical Care Certification, trauma course, ACLS, and Epic experience are preferred
• At least 2 previous travel assignments and 2 years of current surgical ICU experience preferred
