Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital night shift position requiring a GA or compact RN license and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

Work in a busy Emergency Department of a Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital
61+ bed ED with additional surge capacity
Patient population includes trauma, chest pain, stroke, diabetes, mental health, and acute medical cases
Nurse to patient ratio averages 1:4 depending on zone
12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, on a 6-week schedule
Weekend rotation requires 6 weekend shifts per 6-week cycle
No on-call or floating outside the ED
Use of EPIC EMR required; specialized equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, Phillips monitors, and central telemetry
Central Telemetry, RT, Hospitalist, Intensivist, charge nurse, CNA, and phlebotomy support available 24/7
Must work one shift on each major holiday, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Day, and New Year's Eve or Day
First-time travelers are welcome to apply for this position
Department offers in-depth team support including a designated transport team, hospitalists, and a PICC team
Unit provides a 1-day facility orientation with additional 2-day departmental training
Navy scrubs required for RN staff
Free parking is available on campus, with optional paid deck parking
Manager approval needed for RTO requests
Collaborative, high-volume team environment with a strong culture of teamwork

Requirements

Active GA or compact RN license required
Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience required
Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (must pass EKG competency exam)
Emergency nursing national certification preferred
Ability to safely titrate emergency drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
Experience with Level 1 Trauma procedures and emergency care
Experience with EPIC charting system required
