Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Neuro ICU position requiring Level 1 trauma and external ventricular drain (EVD) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a Neuro ICU within an acute hospital setting and Level 1 trauma center
  • 32-bed Intensive Care Unit with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Nights, 12-hour shifts (7 PM to 7 AM), 4 weekend shifts required per 4 weeks, and holidays per unit coverage rotation
  • Patient population includes critical neuro patients, cranial surgeries, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, and complex spine surgeries
  • Uses Cerner EMR and Phillips monitoring equipment
  • Required to float to all ICU floors and telemetry units with a 4:1 patient load on tele; travelers are first to float
  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy support available
  • Required participation in SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change skills on orientation
  • Floor-specific orientation provided (2 shifts)
  • May be placed on standby for scheduled shifts
  • Provide comprehensive neurocritical care and monitor complex neurological conditions in critically ill patients
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teamwork with dedicated charge nurses, RT, and pharmacy support
  • Proficiency maintaining sterile field is essential; breaking sterile field during SIMs Lab is grounds for dismissal
  • Scrub attire must be non-offensive in any color or print, with steel grey required on neuro floors
  • Mandatory completion of lifts, restraints, and wound care education modules during orientation
  • Must present with natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing
  • First-time travelers are not eligible; previous travel experience is required

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in facilities with 450+ beds
  • Level 1 trauma experience and prior travel assignment experience (3-6 months) required
  • Strong neuro assessment and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring skills and EVD experience required
  • Must pass Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer (2 attempts allowed)
  • Must pass a SIMs Lab sterile technique evaluation for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes on Day 1 of orientation
  • Must reside a minimum of 50 miles from the facility per radius rule (driver’s license required for verification)
  • Candidates may not have held direct employment (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit facility in the past year
