Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position with PCU experience and night shift requirements.
Responsibilities
- Position is in the Med/Tele/PCU (Stepdown) unit of an acute care hospital
- Adult and geriatric patient population with frequent cardiac, medical, and surgical cases
- Unit has 32 beds with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5, occasional 1:5-6 on nights, and PCU overflow at 1:3
- Required to work every other weekend and every other holiday
- Night shifts (7p-7a) with 12-hour shift lengths
- First to float within the facility to PCU, Med/Surg, and ER holds/boarding
- Epic EMR is used on the unit
- RNs are responsible for titrating drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine
- Unit uses portable telemonitors, in-room monitors, and has techs at the nurses’ station
- Commonly uses BiPap, trachs, and Airvo equipment
- Provide stepdown level care to cardiac and telemetry patients, including titrating IV drips and interpreting cardiac monitoring
- Float assignments may be given in PCU, Med/Surg or ER holds as needed
- Charge nurse present on every shift and may take a light assignment
- Nursing assistants or patient care techs support the unit with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Required to wear any color scrubs as per dress code
- Initial orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed per 13-week contract; additional time off will not be approved
Requirements
- Active ND or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including recent PCU experience
- Must have BLS and ACLS certifications active at time of consideration
- Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Experience with telemetry and cardiac patient care required
- Epic EMR experience preferred but not required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years with dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility (full-time, part-time, or PRN) in the past year
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
