Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position with regional floating requirements and 18 months of recent Med/Tele RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Hospital-based Med/Surg Tele unit caring for a range of adult medical and telemetry patients
• Work primarily involves night shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am on a 12-hour schedule
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• Travelers are required to float to all facilities within the assigned region as needed and within scope of practice
• Patient ratios are typically 1 RN to 5-6 patients; may increase to 1:7-8 during critical surge
• No on-call or call-back responsibilities
• No trauma designation and not a teaching hospital
• Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors are used
• Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days departmental training
• Patient types include CHF, COPD, chest pain, stroke symptoms, and respiratory conditions in an overflow setting supporting inpatient units and ED holding
• Support staff includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, phlebotomists, IV/VAT teams, resource nurse (as staffing allows), RTs, hospitalists, and intensivists
• No dedicated telemetry monitoring techs; RNs provide monitoring
• Scrubs must be navy
• Travelers must work 75% of holidays per contract
• Time off can be approved up to 6 days, not including holidays, and must be made up at the end of contract if needed
• Free parking is available on site
• First-time travelers will be considered but are not preferred

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele RN experience
• Competency with cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, PCA pumps, cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• Must live at least 50 miles from the home unit
• Epic EMR experience strongly preferred
