Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with recent telemetry experience and night shift requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 24-bed intermediate PCU setting within a tertiary care, Magnet-recognized, Level 1 Trauma hospital
• Patient caseload includes intermediate medical, surgery overflow (TURPS, lap chole, lap appy, hernia, eye or oral surgeries), diabetic teaching, and wound care
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5, occasionally flexing to 1:6
• Night shifts are 3x12 hours, scheduled from 18:45 to 07:15
• Required to work 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period, covering a mix of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Regular floating may be required across departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Epic is used for charting, and Epic experience is preferred
• No on-call is required for this position
• Responsibilities include management of intermediate medical and surgical overflow patients, telemetry monitoring, wound vac, and diabetic education
• Must be willing and able to float to various units and facilities as needed
• Scrub color is navy
• Free parking is provided
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; locals are not accepted
• A maximum of 7 days RTO is allowed
• Two professional references are required, including one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, from the past year
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment
• Holiday shift coverage and acting as charge RN may be required per unit needs
• No travel partners accepted for this assignment

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license required, and Kansas or Missouri license in hand due to floating requirements
• Minimum of 2 years recent PCU or telemetry specialty experience, including at least 1 year within the past 12 months with no gaps over 90 days in the past year
• Certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
• Experience required in cardiac monitoring, arrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response, IV insulin protocols, GI and feeding tube care, wound care, and central/PICC line management
• Advanced skills preferred include trach management, insulin drip titration, renal failure, ortho trauma, total joint replacement, surgical drain care, and eye surgery
