Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position in a Level 2 trauma center with a minimum of 2 years recent ED experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Role is based in the Emergency Department of a hospital with 33 main ED beds, including designated trauma and behavioral health rooms
  • Patient population includes neonates through geriatric with a full spectrum of emergency cases, including major trauma, stroke, sepsis, cardiac events, and critical pediatric cases
  • The ED is a busy Level 2 trauma center with high trauma volumes, especially in summer months
  • Average daily census is 150-180 patients
  • RN patient ratios are typically 1:4-5
  • Travelers are included in rotation for care of sexual assault cases with evidence collection responsibilities
  • Uses EPIC for charting; Omnicell and Alaris equipment
  • Variable 12-hour shifts with possible weekend coverage, but no on-call requirements
  • Schedule may include floating as a task nurse to Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU
  • RNs are responsible for triage, prioritizing care, applying critical thinking, and working with a multidisciplinary team
  • Closely supported by 24/7 in-unit charge nurse, physician and NP coverage, ED Techs, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy tech, and security
  • Orientation includes 8 hours facility onboarding, 4 hours ED education, and at least two 12-hour unit shifts
  • Travelers must be comfortable with evidence collection procedures for sexual assault patients, with comprehensive 24/7 support and resources provided
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Free parking is available
  • Holiday shifts may be required as needed
  • No time off will be approved in the first 3 weeks of August annually

Requirements

  • Active RN license, SD or compact
  • Completion of an approved nursing education program
  • Minimum of 2 years ED experience in a hospital setting, excluding travel experience; 1.5 years considered with 2 years other acute experience and management approval
  • Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS certifications required
  • Experience and comfort with all emergency patient populations listed, evidence collection for sexual assault cases, and ESI triage assessments
  • Previous experience with EPIC EMR preferred
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument facility
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • First-time travelers are not accepted
