Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position in an acute care setting with a PA or compact RN license required.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 28-bed private room Med/Surg unit within an acute care hospital
• Common patient populations include post-surgical, ortho, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end of life, and low-volume inpatient chemo cases
• Care of both 'clean' and 'dirty' (COVID) patients may be required simultaneously
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:6-7
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and scheduled Friday shifts required
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are available, provided unit needs are met
• Floating limited to other Med/Surg units only
• Uses Cerner EMR; prior experience preferred but not required
• No CNA support on night shifts
• Tele patients are monitored remotely; no bedside monitors on unit
• Vents used include Bipap, Cpap, and high flow managed by RT
• One shift floor-specific orientation with preceptor
• Holiday shifts worked as part of perm staff rotation
• Must wear navy blue scrubs with matching jackets if worn
• No administering of cardiac drips; only heparin and MSO4 for comfort measures
• Night shift RN will work with a resource nurse who also has a patient assignment
• No prior perm or traveler employment at a WVU Medicine facility within the past two years allowed
• Travelers may not work within WVU for longer than one year without a two-year break
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position

Requirements

• Active PA or compact RN license
• At least 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience required
• Current BLS certification required
• Ability to provide care for both post-surgical and medically complex patients
• Must meet 50-mile radius rule from facility for eligibility
• Must be comfortable caring for both COVID-positive and non-COVID patients concurrently
• A copy of an unexpired driver’s license is required for consideration
• Disclose any professional license disciplinary actions during consideration
