Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a SD or compact license and strong trauma care skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in a busy Emergency Department with 33 beds, including trauma/resuscitation and behavioral health specialty pods
- Handles a patient volume of 150-180 per day, from neonates to geriatrics, including trauma, cardiac, stroke, and critically ill children
- Level 2 trauma center with a complete Stroke center and access to a cardiac catheter lab
- Patient ratios average 1 RN to 4-5 patients
- Uses Epic charting system, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
- Variable 12-hour shifts with multiple start times; weekends may be required depending on staffing needs
- No on-call responsibilities
- May float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas as a task nurse, not for primary assignment
- Orientation includes 8 hours facility NEO, 4 hours ED-specific, and 2 or more 12-hour unit shifts
- Responsibilities include prioritizing care, managing diverse patient types, and participating in sexual assault evidence collection in rotation
- Support from 24/7 charge nurse coverage, ED techs, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, physician and NP coverage, radiology, pharmacy, and security
- Scrubs are provided
- Free parking available
- Holiday coverage required only if needed
- No requests for time off accepted during the first 3 weeks of August due to Sturgis Bike Rally; all other time off requires manager approval
- This facility is traveler-friendly and frequently renews travelers
Requirements
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- Completion of a board-approved nursing education program
- At least 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience, excluding travel experience, is preferred
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required; CPI or similar preferred
- Comfort with sexual assault evidence collection (no pelvic exams required)
- Critical thinking and triage skills, including ESI assessments
- Experience with Epic preferred
- Must live more than 100 miles from any Monument facility
- Not open to first-time travelers
- Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
