Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU night shift position requiring active ND or compact RN licensure and strong PCU and cardiac monitoring skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 32-bed acute care stepdown unit with a focus on Med/Tele and PCU level patients
  • Care for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, medical, surgical, and respiratory conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4-5, with occasional 1:5-6 on nights and 1:3 for PCU overflow
  • Perform titration of cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine
  • Required to interpret and monitor cardiac telemetry strips independently
  • Utilize Epic EMR for charting
  • Night shifts (12 hours), every other weekend and holiday required
  • Float to other units including PCU, Med/Surg, and ER holds as needed
  • Unit is supported by a charge nurse and nurse aides
  • Unit uses BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo respiratory equipment
  • Primary responsibilities include providing high acuity care to adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, respiratory, and complex medical needs
  • Charge nurse is available on both shifts and may take a light assignment
  • Orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts with individualized support
  • Any color scrubs may be worn while on duty
  • First time travelers are welcome to apply
  • RTO requests must be submitted up front (maximum 7 days per 13-week contract); no additional RTO will be approved
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify
  • Assist with floating to other units for full patient loads as needed

Requirements

  • Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience with recent PCU and telemetry/cardiac experience
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Must not have been employed by a CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility (full time, part time, PRN) within the past year
  • Must provide a copy of driver’s license at time of consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
