Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) float pool position with night shifts and a requirement for WA or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital float pool environment supporting multiple units, primarily focusing on ED holding and PCU
  • Work within various units including PCU, Med-Surg, ICU, Rehab, and overflow COVID units as assigned
  • Patients include those with respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, medical/surgical conditions, CHF, COPD, and general observation cases
  • Expect to care for mixed diagnoses and a variety of patient populations including fast-paced ED holding areas
  • Patient ratios are typically 1:4 for PCU, 1:2 for ICU, and 1:5 for Med-Surg, with potential for 1:5 if floating to Med-Surg
  • Floating is required within scope and to multiple units as needed
  • 12-hour night shifts with weekends scheduled based on unit needs
  • Uses Epic EMR system, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing equipment
  • Primary responsibilities include supporting ED holding units and assisting across PCU and Med-Surg units as directed
  • Work collaboratively with support staff including techs, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
  • Two days of hospital orientation and one day on assigned unit provided before starting
  • Schedule is provided in three-week increments and will vary according to unit needs, with no guaranteed holidays off
  • Up to five days approved time off permitted, with additional requests requiring communication with the nurse manager
  • Scrub or dress code details will be provided during orientation

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required
  • Minimum of 2 years of PCU experience required
  • Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, traches, and IV medication titration
  • Experience with general patient education and communication skills
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Traveler telemetry competency verification required prior to starting
  • First-time travelers are welcome
