Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position caring for mixed acuity patients, requiring ACLS and BLS certification with at least 18 months of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with mixed acuity, ranging from ICU to PCU-level patients
- Largest patient population consists of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery cases, including CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, and VATS
- Care for flex acuity Med/Surg, progressive, ICU, cardiovascular, and oncology patients
- Day shift from 7:00 to 19:30, four 12-hour shifts per week
- Required to work every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities
- All travelers will float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Assignment requires management of telemetry and advanced cardiac equipment
- Uses Cerner EMR; Cerner experience is required or preferred
- Unit has all private rooms with overhead lifts
- Responsible for caring for cardiac, thoracic, endocrine, oncology, and complex medical-surgical patients
- Must manage telemetry, advanced cardiac monitoring, and post-surgical recovery
- All black pants and red tops are required for scrubs
- Free parking is available on site
- Must work two out of three major holidays per assignment
- RTO of up to 5 days may be auto-approved; additional requests require approval
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted for this PCU position
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand at the time of consideration
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
- Minimum of 18 months recent PCU or ICU-level RN experience
- Competency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with post-cardiac surgery patients, arterial lines, central lines, PICC management, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, and blood product administration
- Preferred skills: intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices (LVAD/RVAD/Impella), pre/post cardiac cath, sheath removal, ventilator management
- Graduate of a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE
- Submission of two supervisor references required
- SSN and DOB required at time of consideration
- Previous IU perm or PRN employees must be separated by 12 months before applying
