Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit Float Pool position requiring at least 2 years of PCU experience and an active WA or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in the hospital Nursing Float Pool, primarily supporting the ED Holding area and multiple inpatient units including PCU, ICU, Med-Surg, and Rehab
• Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, general medical-surgical, cardiac conditions, ortho, neuro, and mixed diagnosis in fast-paced ED holding
• Typical ratios: ICU 1:2, PCU/CCU 1:4, Medical/Surgical 1:5, Rehab 1:8 in a team model
• 12-hour night shifts with variable weekend coverage as needed by unit
• Float within the scope of practice across a variety of hospital units and may float for partial shifts
• EMR used is Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis and IV pumps are Alaris
• Primary role will be supporting the ED holding area but will float to other units as needed
• Must be flexible, resourceful, and able to adapt quickly to changing assignments in a fast-paced environment
• Receive two days of hospital orientation and one day of unit orientation with additional four hours allocated when floating to a new unit
• 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist support available
• Schedule is provided three weeks at a time, and weekend/holiday coverage depends on unit needs
• Time off up to 5 days is allowed with prior approval; requests for more require additional approval and may need to be added to end of assignment

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU experience required; other unit float assignments require 2 years ICU or acute care as relevant
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV medication titration, managing chest tubes, lumbar drains, and tracheostomies
• Traveler Telemetry Competency required
• Strong communication and patient education skills
• Experience with Epic EMR
