Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit float pool position with required WA or compact RN license and strong cardiac monitoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital float pool covering PCU, ED holding, Med-Surg, and related units
• Primarily assigned to the ED holding unit and float among various hospital departments as needed
• Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, ortho, oncology, and mixed medical-surgical diagnoses
• PCU nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4, with adjustments when floated to Med-Surg (1:5)
• Must be flexible and resourceful in a fast-paced environment, providing care for isolation and non-ambulatory patients
• 12-hour day shifts with weekend work varying by unit needs
• EPIC EMR is used throughout the facility
• Required to float within scope of practice and may float for partial shifts
• Primary responsibility is to support ED holding and float pool teams with a focus on PCU-level patient care
• Team provided with tech, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support available 24/7
• Required to complete hospital orientation and telemetry competency
• Schedule is provided three weeks at a time, with timely assignment notifications provided before shifts
• Time off up to 5 days approved, with additional time off requiring supervisor approval and extension of assignment
• No holiday requests or self-scheduling allowed

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required for consideration (pending license accepted with proof of application)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills and required IV medication titration experience (e.g., Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, insulin, heparin)
• Experience with chest tubes, lumbar drains, traches, and managing general medical-surgical patients
• Must demonstrate effective communication and patient education skills
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
