Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post-Surgical Med/Surg unit requiring stepdown/PCU and Level 1 trauma experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is located on a hospital Post-Surgical Med/Surg unit caring for pre- and post-operative patients
• Patient population includes those with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, NGT, and DHT; some care is stepdown level
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for stepdown area
• Day shift schedule with 12-hour shifts, three shifts per week
• Requires working with ENT and transplant surgeries, with relevant experience preferred
• No operating room duties included
• Responsibilities include caring for post-surgical and stepdown patients with complex needs such as wound and drain management, trach and ostomy care
• Role includes medication administration, monitoring patient responses, assisting with minor diagnostic procedures, and communication with the care team and patient families
• Delegation to support staff is expected as appropriate
• Standard dress code and use of hospital-approved scrubs required
• Candidates may not have been previously employed by the facility within the last 6 months after a 26-week assignment
• Orientation and onboarding will be provided prior to assuming patient care responsibilities

Requirements

• Active OK or compact RN license required
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
• Minimum of 1 year acute care surgical floor nursing experience
• Stepdown/PCU and Level 1 trauma experience required
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program required; BSN preferred
• Must have prior travel nursing experience
• Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary
• Must possess basic computer skills
• Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
