Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for an outpatient infusion unit, requiring strong IV skills and South Dakota or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Work in an outpatient infusion unit providing ambulatory care
• Care for patients requiring infusions for RA, GI, immunotherapy, MS, blood transfusions, hydration, iron, antibiotics, injections, and other ordered treatments
• 20 infusion rooms with 1–2 dedicated COVID spots
• Patient ratio is typically 1 RN to 7 patients
• Day shift, 10-hour shifts between 0630 and 1700
• No floating required
• No weekend shifts or on-call responsibilities
• Charting with Epic EMR is required
• Uses Omnicell, Alaris IV pumps, and CADD portable pumps
• Provide outpatient infusion therapy and related nursing duties to a variety of patient populations
• Support staff includes three CNAs for the unit and daily charge nurse who may take a patient assignment
• RN responsible for performing phlebotomy and serving as IV team; CRNA available for ultrasound-guided IVs when needed
• 2–3 days of orientation provided depending on experience and comfort
• Holiday coverage required if a holiday falls on a scheduled shift, with 2 of 4 holidays expected
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• First-time travelers are welcome if they meet experience requirements

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• At least 1.5 years of nursing experience; if first-time traveler, minimum 2 years of experience is required
• Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
• Excellent IV skills and experience with both peripheral and central VADs required
• Familiarity with immunotherapy medications required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
